Ingredients

Marinated Beef

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp Thai soy sauce
  • 1 tsp brown sugar

Basil Beef

  • 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tsp fish sauce
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce
  • Juice from 1 lime
  • 1 tbsp neutral flavored oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • ½ white onion, sliced
  • ½ cup thinly sliced mushrooms
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 Thai chiles, finely minced (seeds removed)
  • 1 ½ cups Thai basil
  • Fresh cilantro, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for serving
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Start by marinating the beef. Combine sliced steak with soy sauce and sugar. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. In a small bowl combine soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, oyster sauce, and lime juice until well incorporated. Set aside.

  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add beef and cook until browned. Add the bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, garlic, and chili to the beef and cook until vegetables start to soften, about 5 minutes.

  4. Pour in the sauce mixture and stir well to fully coat the beef and veggies. Cook for 1 minute until sauce has thickened and reduced a bit. Stir in basil until wilted. Remove from heat and serve immediately.

  5. Serve beef over cooked rice and garnish with fresh cilantro and sesame seeds.
