Mini Cinnamon French Toast Bites

What type of bread would you recommend for this recipe?

I highly recommend using brioche bread if you want the best texture. For a more nutrient-dense option, you can opt for a thick cut whole wheat or wheat grain bread or sourdough.

Can I substitute the egg whites for regular egg?

Yes! Substitute the egg whites for 1 large egg + 2 tbsp milk.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices thick bread, preferably brioche (or sub thick cut whole wheat or whole grain bread
  • ½ cup egg whites (or sub 1 large egg + 2 tbsp milk)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (or sub 1 scoop vanilla protein powder)
  • â…“ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (or sub coconut sugar)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Cut each piece of bread into 9 cubes.
  • In a bowl, whisk together egg whites, flour, milk, and vanilla until combined. Dip each cube of bread into mixture, shaking off any excess, and transfer to a large plate.
  • Preheat air fryer at 350F. Spray air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray. Add cubes in a single layer into basket (most likely will need to work in multiple batches). Spray with additional nonstick cooking spray. Air fry at 350F for 5-6 minutes until golden brown. Cool bread for 5 minutes or until safe to touch.
  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together cinnamon and sugar.  Dip each cube into melted butter then coat in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • (Optional): serve bites warm with maple syrup.
